I did a post a short while ago about finding your passion and purpose in life, and I thought I had mine all figured out! I was sure that I knew what my purpose in life is, and I am still sure of that one, but I am not so sure any more that I know what I am passionate about! Weird right? Well not really.
I have been reading a book called: “The Digital Mom Handbook” written by a couple of mom’s who had their passions, and decided to start blogging about them, and have become really successful at what they do, enough so that they now do it full time as their
career! Imagine doing something as your career, everyday, that you love to do! That is rare in the world today.
In this book they ask some questions that kind of got me doing some real thinking. I am only on Step 1 in the book, and it is titled FIND YOUR PASSION. Have you ever really thought about what you are passionate about? And nope, I am not talking about romantic type passion!!! That doesn’t count! I am talking about what drives you each day to do what you do. I am talking about what you would do if you could do anything you wanted to do. What did you always want to be when you grew up? What do you still want to be when you grow up? If you had enough money to never have to work again, what would you do? These were some tough questions for me.
I looked back through my life and realized that I am the kind of person who is so darn compliant, that whatever I needed to do at the time, was my passion. If I was doing chores, I put my all into it. If I was doing homework, I focused and did my best (or so I thought). If I was hanging out with friends, I was totally into it and nothing else mattered. As I got older, my passions became a bit different, but still the same – if that makes any sense. Whatever I was involved in at the moment, I was totally there. If I was in mom mode, nothing was more important that being a mom and learning whatever I needed to learn to be the best at what I was doing. When I started home schooling my children, I was passionate about it. I learned everything I could learn to be the best home school mom that I could be for what my kiddos needed at that time. I learned the education laws, so I could fight for what I wanted. I learned all of the different forms of home school, so I could incorporate parts of each of them that I thought were the best for our situation. I did arts and crafts, studied Spanish, did field trips, and all kinds of fun stuff. That was my passion for many years.
I became passionate about food storage and emergency preparation at one point. I was walking, living, and teaching everything there is to know about it. I was watching flyers for sales, researching online for any new info I could find to incorporate into my training and teaching. I was totally engrossed in everything that had to do with becoming prepared. Was this my passion in life? Maybe.
I became passionate about herbal medicine and learning absolutely everything there was to learn about herbs. I still love to learn everything herbal. I teach classes on herbs and making herbal remedies. It has become a part of who I am. Was this my passion? Possibly.
I love reading. I love crocheting, and I have learned to knit a bit, and hope to pick that up a bit more – when I find time some day. Haha! I love to visit, and have learned that I can do that through my writing. I have written four books, and have a few more in the works. I love teaching about frugal living, and making all things from scratch. I absolutely love being a grandma, probably more than most anything else! But still haven’t found that thing that I would do if money and time were not an object of opposition, and if
I could do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted.
And then all of a sudden, I found my AHAAA moment! I LOVE TO LEARN NEW THINGS! I am kind of like a sponge, when I get an idea in my head, I have to go all out and learn everything I can about it, until I am satisfied enough, then I can move onto the next project. If I had money to do whatever I wanted, I would learn everything that I could possible learn, and I would teach it. I find I learn best by studying enough to teach it. In that way I am the my own best student.
There you have it, and more importantly, I think I have it! I have found my deep down passion! I love to learn things. As I learn them, I will continue to share them with you here! I will more than likely keep them on similar topics to things that I already love in life, but may stray off the road once in awhile. I sometimes have a hard time settling down to just one thing. 🙂
Feel free to join me as I learn new things all the time. I would love to learn from you! I am always open to ideas, recipes, topics, and comments. Love them all!
